Keeping my promise was the best gift
My mom had one big dream for me. She wanted me to get a college degree. It was more than a wish. It became a promise I made to her. I knew she gave up so much for my schooling.
Years later, college was quite hard for me. But that promise kept me going. Many times, I wanted to quit school. Few subjects especially mathematics were difficult. That time giving up seemed like the easy option.
But every time, I remembered her face. I knew she was proud of me if I just worked hard. This gave me strength and kept me going.
I kept that promise. I broke it into smaller steps. Each chapter I read helped. I asked my teachers and a friend for help. My friend fortunately supported me. I never lost sight of the main aims. I was not just building my own future. I was also making her dream real.
And the day came when I got graduated ! It felt just great. The real reward was not the degree. It was seeing my mother in the crowd.
I even could see tears in her eyes. I knew keeping that promise was the best gift I gave her. I also learned how to truly stick with difficult things in life.
Thank you for visiting the blog. @flema
I find it amazing you kept that promise but I do wonder if your mother would have understood it if you were not able to reach that high. I know as a mother all I want for my children that they are happy. There's no reason to get a degree, do a job that isn't secured for the rest of their lives, it's not even sure they get old.
Congrats you made it!
Thank you so much to read here and reply you views. I agree with your views, may be I will apply them on my children.
But thing is I was living in that part of world, where education was must to move ahead in life. The opportunities in outer world were less for uneducated people. My mother had seen poverty in most of her life. So it it quite natural to dream , what she dreamed about me.
Thanks a lot for your wishes.
