Would you like to buy some sweet water?

This was the sales pitch I got sucked in by. Would you buy it? This is the only thermos that continually provides sweet waters for your soul. Drink and be refreshed for the streams of water that come from this very simple cup.

It was our school's market day today.

First and second grade students stayed inside the classrooms. But third through sixth graders went outside to sell and buy their goods. I got a new thermos out of the deal. The kid told me that any water I add to the thermos will become sweet and fresh. Who could turn down this bargain and for less than 2 dollars.

The sun was baking the playground and I was thirsty so I had to buy it.

Suddenly the kid changed the price on me. I was ready to pay the 1700 won on the price sticker, but suddenly he knocked off 200 won. I didn’t even ask him. He really wanted to unload it.

I thought it was a good opportunity to help the kids practice English.

Yet it didn’t turn out the way I expected. They were glad that I came outside to visit them. I really didn’t want to buy anything, but they persisted. I was really there just to play along with the learning experience. They shouted some English words but it all got mixed up with Korean.

When I asked for change they didn't know what I was talking about.

Finally the boy got confused and gave me the 500 won in change but forgot to give me the cup. These are fifth grade students and trying to look cool is all part of the deal. I gave them 1500 won and they gave me a new thermos. Now I’m drinking a cup of hot tea in my office.

What is this thermos I just bought?

The water doesn’t taste any better. My tea has a bitter taste to it. The thermos holds water but it is fushia. I never noticed in the sunlight that it was fuchsia. I thought it was burgundy. Now I’m looking at this thermos sitting on my desk thinking, “I bought a sissy cup.” What am I doing drinking from a sissy cup? I have to go around school carrying this sissy cup around with me.

Real men wear fuchsia.

Wait. What am I trying to hide? Am I questioning my own masculinity over a mug cup? I’m going to carry this mug cup around and show that it doesn’t matter what color I carry. I am who I am. I’m stuck with the cup and I’m going to drink it. This is a big fuchsia cup, but size is not everything.

Trash Hockey

I looked out the window and kids are playing hockey with cola bottles. After the field was cleared the second graders went outside for track and field day. If they can play hockey outside in a sand field with old cola bottles then I can drink from my fuchsia mug cup.
