Google NotebookLM Can Now Generate AI Explainer Videos From Articles & YouTube — Here’s How I Used It
“What if you could turn a document—or even a YouTube video—into a narrated explainer in under 2 minutes?”
That’s what I just tested using the new “Video Overview” feature inside Google NotebookLM, and the results blew me away.
This update allows you to generate short, narrated videos directly from any content: pasted text, articles, YouTube transcripts, or web sources — and it does it using AI, with no editing software needed.
I recorded a step-by-step tutorial showing exactly how it works:

🧠 What Is Google NotebookLM?
NotebookLM is Google's AI research assistant — originally designed to summarize and synthesize knowledge from user-uploaded documents. The latest upgrade introduces a Studio panel, which now lets you generate 4 different types of outputs:
🗣️ Audio Overview
📽️ Video Overview
🧠 Mind Map
📄 Report Summary
The Video Overview is the standout: it creates an AI-narrated slide-based video, pulling highlights, quotes, and even visual cues from your sources.
🛠️ What I Did (and You Can Too)
Here’s a summary of the process I followed in the video:
Created a new notebook
Pasted in text about quantum internet breakthroughs
Imported a YouTube transcript using the source link
Used the “Discover Sources” feature to import 10+ articles on the same topic
Opened the Studio panel → Selected Video Overview
Customized the narrator style and tone
Clicked Generate — and boom, got a full video
Downloaded the final file for use anywhere
The result? A clean, AI-powered explanation of a complex topic with zero manual editing. Great for educators, YouTubers, content creators, or even students who want to review material visually.
⚡ Why This Matters
This tool is particularly powerful for:
📚 Educators converting lesson material into media
🎬 Creators making content faster
🧑💼 Professionals simplifying dense research or reports
🧑🎓 Students turning study notes into video study guides
It’s not just automation—it’s acceleration. You give the AI content; it gives you an instantly usable asset.
