It's pretty clear a lot of fuel behind the passion is rooted in fear of the unknown, or the misunderstood. For the most part, if you're not a gun owner you probably don't have enough knowledge about guns to make accurate references because guns come in all shapes and sizes and with different purposes. A blanket statement or complete gun ban is a knee-jerk reaction and not the sensible solution to such a complicated issue.
