The Day I Realized My Fatigue Wasn’t Just in My Head

I used to think my constant tiredness was just part of getting older. You know… busy life, too much coffee, not enough sleep. But then I read about vitamin D deficiency, and honestly, it felt like someone had written my biography. Fatigue, muscle aches, mood dips, catching colds too often — check, check, check.

I started paying attention. And I realized that even though I live in a sunny place, I spend most of my day indoors. No wonder my body was running on empty.

Turns out, vitamin D deficiency is far more common than most of us think. It’s not just about “getting some sun.” Things like age, darker skin tone, being overweight, or even digestive issues can make it harder for your body to get or use vitamin D properly.

One of my favorite finds was this Instagram post with a bright plate of grilled mackerel and avocado toast — a perfect “food first” approach:

And then there’s this Threads post from a doctor, reminding us: “If you’re still waking up tired despite rest, consider checking your D3 levels — not everything is in your head.”

I also stumbled on a super useful Pinterest infographic showing the top vitamin D–rich foods side by side. It made me realize I wasn’t eating nearly enough of them:

A quick midday walk, a couple of servings of salmon or eggs each week, and maybe a supplement (if your doctor recommends it) can all make a difference.

On X (Twitter), I read someone’s simple but relatable post: “Finally got my D levels tested — makes sense now why I've been dragging all winter. Fixable!”

It’s not just about individuals either — there was a great conversation on LinkedIn about how workplace wellness programs could integrate vitamin D checks:

And in one Facebook community, they broke it down into a practical plan that anyone could follow — sunlight, diet, supplements:
