Apple partners with Stanford to launch Apple heart study App today
Apple launched the Apple heart study app today. A first of its kind research study using the sensor on Iwatches heart rate sensor to collect data on irregular heart rhythms. This will be used to notify those users that are experiencing A-fib.
"Atrial fibrillation, often referred to as afib, is an irregular heartbeat, a rapid heartbeat, or a quivering of the upper chambers of the heart, called the atria. Atrial fibrillation is due to a malfunction in the heart's electrical system, and is the most common heart irregularity, or cardiac arrhythmia."

Apple is partnering with Stanford Medicine to do the research. If an irregular rhythm is identified, participants will receive:
- notification on their apple iwatch or iPhone
- a free consultation with a cardiologist
- electrocardiogram patch for additional monitoring
The apple heart study app is avail in the US app store to those that have an iwatch series 1 or later.
The irregular rhythm sometimes keeps churning the blood over and over again in the atrials rather than run its course which causes a washing machine effect; causing clots.
Furthermore; the best way to treat atrial fibrillation is by taking a baby aspirin daily; 81mg. Aspirin helps prevent clotting of the blood and can therefore prevent thrombolitc stroke, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms which are all high risk factors for people with atrial fibrillation.
