My Relationship With Sleep
Hello steemians, how are you all? On this occasion I am again participating in a contest held by @abdullahw2 with the theme My Relationship With Sleep. I also invite friends @cruzamilcar63, @chant, @pandora2010, to participate in this contest.
Sleep is an important part of maintaining physical and mental health. Quality sleep with sufficient time can also increase a person's productivity. However, many of us consider sleep as a common thing. Even just considering sleep as a trivial activity without caring about the impacts that can arise. Adequate and quality sleep really helps the body and brain to recover. It can also improve cognitive function and maintain mood, to strengthen the immune system. Lack of sleep can cause memory loss, bad mood, and increased risk of chronic diseases.
Why is sleep said to be important, it is because when sleeping the body becomes relaxed so that it gives time to rest and rebuild muscles that have been tired throughout the day. The duration of good sleep certainly varies from person to person depending on their age. According to health experts, adults need enough sleep between 7 to 8 hours every night. Unlike children to teenagers who need more sleep. I myself have a sufficient sleep duration of between 6-7 hours every night. Although sometimes my sleep time is more or often below that. I feel enough with those hours of sleep because I feel healthy until now. However, I will try to increase my sleep hours every night considering my increasing age.
To get quality sleep, sometimes people do various routines before going to bed. Of course, everyone's routine is different, some read to meditate before going to bed. For me, there is no special routine that I do before going to bed. However, I often open my smartphone before going to bed and avoid the light of the lamp. Because the light of the lamp makes me unable to fall asleep unless there are other things that must have light. As a Muslim, of course reading dhikr while remembering the creator is a common thing to do before going to bed.
Many people experience sleep disorders caused by various factors. The demands of work are very numerous and heavy, causing many thoughts. Anxiety can cause the mind to become restless, making it difficult to sleep. I personally sometimes have difficulty sleeping, especially at night. This happens when I experience or face a difficult situation, either at work or other problems. Sometimes I get carried away by thoughts until night if a job is not finished or I make a mistake. That becomes my mind that makes it difficult for me to close my eyes. Noise is also the reason I can't sleep well, as well as the light from the lamp will interfere with the quality of my sleep.
Lack of sleep or poor quality will certainly have a negative impact on physical and mental health. Insufficient sleep can also increase the risk of various chronic diseases ranging from diabetes and heart disease, to decreased cognitive function and mood. However, on the other hand, if you get enough and quality sleep, it will have many positive impacts, such as improving the immune system, better cognitive function, and better mood. Adequate sleep can also avoid stress and the risk of depression. So it is very important to make sure you get enough and quality sleep every night to maintain your health.
