Total knee replacement is now a necessary painful procedure required for grade 3 and grade 4 osteoarthritis. Today we talk about knee osteoarthritis, its causes, symptoms and prevention
Causes |

Let's talk about causes. Women having low vitamin D and calcium are more prone to it. Women over 50 years of age and had repetitive bending movements are at risk. Similarly many genetic factors and hormonal responses like menopause can be a cause. Women who become overweight or obese are at maximum risk of having reduced knee spaces. A sedentary lifestyle without any healthy activity like walking 30min daily having a junk diet, and no dairy products intake i.e milk or yogurt are more at risk than an active lifestyle.

Symptoms of knee osteoarthritis include sharp pain at the center of the knee, swelling around the knee and you cannot be able to bend your knee properly every time you sit, you have difficulty standing up.
You feel like something is grinding in there.
This pain can be in both knees if you feel swelling, tenderness, or pain in your knees or the surrounding area
Prevention |

Prevention is better than cure as we all know so the best way to prevent knee osteoarthritis and further total knee replacement is to have an active lifestyle.
Your diet should be balanced and rich in calcium and vitamin D, especially for women there should be an adequate balance between the two.
Walk at least 30 minutes a day or should have 45 minutes of strenuous activity in 4-5 days a week.
The chemistry of bone and muscles is like that they share the burden. When your muscles get weak your bones do 90% of the work and as a result, there is wear and tear so to protect yourself from bony diseases your bones and muscles should be in good density and shape respectively.
Treatment |

Treatment includes gentle range of motion exercises, isometric exercises, applying ice pack for around 10 to 15 minutes proves beneficial in reducing the swelling tenderness and also helps in eliminating pain.
Traction also proves beneficial in re-gaining the healthy space between joints
