"Let's talk about Orthopedics"
😁 Do you know what orthopedics is? Can you give us some information?
Yes, I know what Orthopedics is. I know it as the branch of medicine that focuses on the treatment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and prevention of conditions involving the musculoskeletal system, which includes nerves, tendons, ligaments, joints, and muscles. Orthopedic Surgeons are doctors who treat orthopedic-related issues.
😁 At what age can orthopedic devices be used?
It can be used at any age from infancy to old age, depending on the conditions.
- Infants may need to use orthopedic braces for clubfoot or shoes
- Children usually use orthopedic devices for limb, cerebral palsy, or deformities.
- Adult people might use them for post-surgery, arthritis, or fractures
- Everybody of age may need walkers, joint replacements, canes, due to joint and aging bones.
😁 Do you know the difference between orthodontics and orthopedics?
Orthopedic
- It deals with bones and joints
- The orthopedic surgeon is in charge of the treatment
- It focuses on strength, alignment, and movement of the body
- It uses surgery, casts, walkers, and braces.
Orthodontics
- It deals with jaws and teeth
- Orthodontics is in charge of the treatment
- It focuses on correcting bite issues and misaligned teeth
- It uses aligners, retainers, and dental braces
😁 Advantages of using orthopedics before orthodontics.
The treatment of orthopedics can guide the growth of the lower and upper jaw, making it easier for future treatment.
If the jaw is misaligned early orthopedic treatment can help fix the structure before focusing on the teeth.
It helps to shape the face well during growth.
It reduces or eliminates the need for teeth removal or surgery later in the future.
