Stunning Lavender Blooms All Summer Long
Lavender keeps coming to mind, and I find myself drawn to its scent and shade once more. This past weekend, my husband and I took a slow walk through our neighborhood, enjoying the fresh warmth of spring.
The air smelled of blooming flowers, and everywhere we looked, the gardens of our neighbors burst with color and life. It was clear that spring is not just a passing season here; it has firmly taken hold in the lush greenery of each yard.
The little front gardens of the houses are like tiny showcase spaces where residents plant a variety of flowers and shrubs. Many of these gardens contain familiar favorites, while others feature more unique choices.
As we wandered along, I enjoyed observing which plants were planted year after year and which ones seemed to be one-time features. One thing I was certain of is that lavender is a common sight in these gardens, and it always has been.
It almost feels like a tradition for many families to include lavender among their plant selections.
There is one neighbor who has devoted an entire strip of her garden to lavender. It’s a striking sight—a long, winding border filled entirely with different varieties of lavender, all growing shoulder to shoulder.
The scent drifts softly through the air as the wind moves through the fragrant purple blooms. This border, combined with her collection of rhododendrons, geraniums, and roses, forms a stunning and fragrant garden.
Lavender, along with these other plants, seems to be a staple in suburban yards. It’s easy to see why: lavender is hardy, looks beautiful, and fills the air with a calming aroma.
Many garden enthusiasts plant lavender because it’s not just decorative; it’s also easy to care for once established. That’s why it’s so common across neighborhoods.
