How to Repair Socks on a Light Bulb with a Standard E27 Socket Using One Thread

Hello, dear readers! Old-school mending techniques are back in style—not just for saving money but also for being eco-friendly. One of the simplest ways to fix a hole in a sock is to use a regular E27 light bulb instead of a darning egg. If you only have one thread, don't worry; it's enough to neatly mend your sock.
What You'll Need:

  • A smooth, round light bulb (either incandescent E27 or LED, just make sure it's not broken)
  • A needle with a thin eye
  • Strong thread №40
  • A sock with a hole
    Step 1: Preparation
Turn the sock inside out and insert the E27 light bulb so that the hole is at the top of the bulb. The bulb acts as a darning egg, allowing you to stretch the fabric without the risk of cutting yourself.
    Step 2: Threading the Needle
Don't fold the thread in half. Simply thread one end through the needle and tie a small knot at the opposite end to get started.
    Step 3: Stitching "Forward Needle"
Begin stitching around the hole with small stitches. Pass the needle back and forth from each side, gently pulling the fabric edges together. Avoid pulling too tight, as it may bunch up.
    Step 4: Weaving
After your first round of stitching, make perpendicular stitches across the hole like a web. Then, weave the needle under these threads to create a cross-stitch pattern. This will reinforce the area and prevent the hole from reopening.
    Step 5: Finishing Up
Once you reach the end of the thread, secure it with a knot and tuck the tail inside the fabric. Remove the sock from the E27 bulb—and voilà, your neat mending is complete! Don't forget to like and subscribe for more interesting tips! 😊
