"Pick a Word, Paint a Story #22"
Every evening the children will gather around the village square flying kites and running to all the mango trees in the village waiting for the cold breeze to blow from the river, they will pick up mango fruits to their parents and relatives, and they were always so happy. They will sing around the mango tree, singing to the gods to send them the blowing breeze.
But this faithful Thursday evening a tragedy happened, a stone that was used in throwing the mango fruits fell and hit one of the child to death, the entire village was in shock, where the stone came from. They cried and cursed that day and the breeze. So the consulted their deity to find out were the stone came from, because they were all panicked and warned their children never to go for mango picking again.
When the chief Priest came, he told them that they gods who gives the breeze was angry that they had forgotten that is the giver of the breeze, as such sacrifices was to be made to appease the anger of the god's.
On Saturday evening, the cloud was heavy loading with water about to down pour, but before they came a heavy and mighty wind , they wind was so strong that it removed some roof of some of the villagers houses. They were even more afraid and without rethinking they now strongly believe that truly the gods was angry with them.
The chief Priest was summoned again to consult their supreme deity of wind and breeze
"Azutia", the repeated that urgent sacrifices was needed to appease the anger of Azutia the gods of wind and breeze.
The king now gave and order that on every last market day of the month, sacrifices will be offered to the deity.
Each famiy was demanded to contribute a sacrifice items to the chief custodian of the deity. And at night about 12am it became a tradition that no one except the chief custodian who will take the items to appease the gods of the wind to continue holding the wind and seize the stone from coming with the breeze from the river Usaru
It was believe that when there is a storm or a strong breeze blowing across the river to the village that the gods are not please with their sacrifices. This has been the believe in Umar village for a very long time.
It was time for another sacrifices to be made On Friday evening, there was a great wind from the riverside, all the villager were terrified and put under fear, the wind was so strong that some roofs top were removed again, trees uprooted, fear cripple the entire village.
The elders started running up and down to gather items to appease the gods. There was this family that just returned back from the city.
When the elders approach them to demand for their contributions, their son who happened to be a Rev. Father refused to comply to their request but warn them to decease from all sort of deception and falsehoods.
He challenge the entire village that he will step outside by 12am midnight to show them that the items was not always offered to the gods whom they believe but it was always sold out to buyers who will come by that time of the night to the riverside and purchase those items.
When the truth was revealed and the chief custodian banish from the land, he preached and highlighted to the entire villager that the cold night breeze is always from nature and not because they God want to destroy them and that the stone was not from the gods. They were so happy to be liberated from the myth of the breeze.
They children were free to go out again when there is a breeze blowing, they elders will pick up their seat to sit under the trees to enjoy the cold breeze and discuss with their families and friends.
