MASACRE IN THE BRAZILIAN CARINDIRU CARCEL 02/10/1992

A fight between two prisoners of the Brazilian prison of Carandirú unleashes a mutiny on October 2, 1992. The prison in the city of Sao Paulo is overpopulated and its inhabitants must suffer constant abuses by the guards. In response to the rebellion, hundreds of policemen under the command of Colonel Luiz Nakarahada, are about to return to the prison. Noticing the imminence of the offensive, the prisoners surrender to the authorities. Hundreds of prisoners are trained in a prison yard. The police opened fire on the inmates, killing 111 of them and wounding 153. The Carandirú jail was deactivated and dynamited in 2002. Although some of those responsible for the massacre were prosecuted, they avoided imprisonment for legal technicalities.!
