When the Japanese Commander Mitsuo Fuchida flew over Pearl Harbor during the attack, he announced to the Japanese Navy that the Americans were taken by surprise by yelling, the codeword “Tora! Tora! Tora!” (“Tiger! Tiger! Tiger!”).
