Taman Kubur Rujak Meatballs, a Typical East Jakarta Innovation

Culinary innovations continue to emerge, one of which is bakso rujak, which is now attracting the attention of unique food lovers. This dish combines meatballs and fruit, drizzled with rujak sauce.

Gita, the owner of Bakso Rujak Taman Kuburan in Jakarta, says this unique dish can be found in Penggilingan. The initial idea came from experimenting with her sister, combining their shared love of fruit and meatballs.

It turned out to be delicious, and has since evolved into a signature dish. One portion of bakso rujak contains three small meatballs and one large one, and is sold for Rp 20,000.

There's also a double portion option, featuring two large meatballs, for Rp 26,000. This stall can sell up to 100 portions a day, especially on weekends.

The taste of the rujak meatballs is unique, combining sour, spicy, sweet, and savory flavors all in one dish. The sauce uses authentic rujak spices, without the added soy sauce found in most meatballs.

Gita faces challenges in the availability of seasonal fruits like rose apples and ambarella. If fruit is scarce, she is willing to search for it from further away to ensure quality.

Her bakso rujak customers come from all walks of life, including children and adults. She even has customers from Depok who come specifically to try it.

Despite its location near a cemetery, Gita ensures all ingredients are hygienic and the water used is clean. The business has been running for three years and is managed by her brother.

They are assisted by one permanent employee and sometimes by her nephew during busy times. Gita plans to open branches in other areas, such as Bekasi or North Jakarta.

Gita is currently raising capital for expansion. She invites the public to come directly to Jalan Layar, CPU, Penggilingan, to try her fresh and unique meatball rujak.
