Cooperatives are considered an economic form that aligns with the culture of mutual cooperation.
Ahmad Labib, a member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), believes that cooperatives are the economic form most aligned with communal values. They also align with the Indonesian culture of mutual cooperation, as envisioned by the nation's founders.
"Even though we live in an increasingly liberal democratic era, the communal spirit of Indonesian society remains very strong. In that context, our economic ecosystem should be developed through a model that aligns with the values of togetherness," said the Golkar politician in his statement at the DPR RI Building, Senayan, Jakarta.
He believes that the Red and White Village/Sub-district Cooperative program, initiated by President Prabowo Subianto, can revitalize the Indonesian economy. In fact, these cooperatives could be more suitable as the backbone of the people's economy.
"Compared to other alternatives such as Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), although BUMDes can be a driving force for village development, the potential for misappropriation is also high," he said.
When BUMDes begin to succeed and expand, he explained, a new oligarchy at the village level is highly likely. This is because BUMDes are managed under the Limited Liability Company Law (CV).
"Therefore, community participation is very limited, managed by only a handful of village elites. Development that does not directly benefit the community is futile," he said.
