Change

Change is inevitable. It is the law of life. Everything in life is in a constant flux of change. Nothing remains the same for long. Our only security in life is our ability to change. And the key to change is to let go of fear – the fear of change, the fear of the unknown.

We are reluctant to change because change can be uncomfortable. We get too comfortable in our habits and environment, and we don’t want to change. Even a rut can be comfortable when we are in it long enough. Change means adapting to the new. To accept new ideas and give up old values and habits is not always comfortable. So we would rather stick with what we know and are comfortable with.

But, when we resist change, life becomes at best a continual struggle; at worst, it passes us by and we are left behind while people around us advance. If we want things to be better, we have to bear with the inconvenience first. Once we have settled into the new environment, we will be glad that we make the move to change. Ultimately, all change is for the better.

Change is hard because we overestimate the value of what we have and underestimate the value of what we may gain. We have to view change as a natural phenomenon – to anticipate it and plan for it. If there is no change, there is no growth, no progress.

When change is necessary, we should just take the plunge. We should welcome the chance to experience new things and opportunities. Quite often, we emerged better for it and are glad that we did it – our lives being richer for the experiences.

Unfortunately, the sad truth is people only change when they are ready. It is difficult to persuade someone to change. No amount of goodwill, or good intention, pleading or persuasion will make people change. But until they come to that moment of realization for themselves, nothing you say or do will make people change.

There will be times when we long for change. When we are unhappy, and we are sick and tired of being sick and tired. That is when we look forward, and welcome a change. When we are ready for change, we do not find excuses or resistances. We know it is time to move on. But when we are not ready, or willing to change, change can be very difficult.
