Out and About In Arroyo de la Miel

I made it a point to go out and have a walk every day even when I am here in Benalmadena.

The supermarket we go to is about a fifteen minutes walk. On days when we have to go to the supermarket to stock up our supplies, we usually take the longer route on our way there and work in our walk. On days when we do not have to go to the supermarket, we will take a longer walk elsewhere.

We walk in the afternoon when the local folks are having their afternoon siesta. It is quieter and has less traffic. Roger will take the lead in the walk, weaving through the sloping side streets and residential area. I follow behind and take a photo of whatever catches my eye.

Arroyo de la Miel stands on hilly slopes at the base of mount Calamorro. You do not have far to walk before coming down, or going up a slope. And some of them are pretty steep too.

A nice cottage style house. The Spanish are home proud. Their homes and apartment blocks look like they have just been given a new coat of paint. Their courtyards are neat, tidy and their gardens are beautiful.

These are apartments near the beach. They look very upmarket – which I am sure they are because of their close proximity to the sea.

This clump of tree looks over a hundred years old. Their shade will bring the temperature down a degree or two.

A cloudless blue sky. It has been rather warm this year. Here, at the coast, temperatures range between 32C to 34C. Inland, there were days when it was 42C.

Sometimes, towards the end of a long walk, I feel my brain, what little of it left, sizzling in my head. Hot and dry, it is stifling even for this old boy from the tropics.
