Another thing that can be quoted on this occasion is the following - my favorite, and very useful thought: "If you knew how rarely you are understood correctly, you would be silent more often.", Goethe.
communication is actually a complex process.
This is very important to know, and this knowledge would help prevent many misunderstandings and negative feelings. It sounds like a farce, but in fact it is absolutely true.
It is one thing to be misunderstood when you speak a foreign language, but it is quite another to remain misunderstood when speaking to people in your own language. And this has happened to me often in my life. And it has taught me to be more silent.
But the most difficult thing is when you have something important to say, and you don't know how to do it, how to express yourself, how many words to use, the length of the statement - not too long to be boring, not too short to cover everything that needs to be said... This is such a complex project, and so important. I realized it when I sat down a few days ago to write a message to a stranger. It turns out that after the destruction of the Tower of Babel, according to religious myths and legends, God punished people to stop understanding each other not only by creating many languages. But also by not being able to understand each other, even when they spoke the same language.😅
Thank you for the quote. Very true indeed. That is why communication is such a complex process. So many things could go wrong - even a simple message could be misintepreted.
Unfortunately, we don't always realize this. We just assumed that what we said was understood, or we understood what was said. Thus, it is always good to confirm that we understand what was being said - especially on important issues.
The bit about God punishing people... Nah. 😊
