Being a fakir is a blessing for fakir and a curse or (to mildly put) an annoyance for others.
Fakir is an Arabic word usually used for a muslim ascetic person. I didn't know the term is used worldwide... or is there another word for it in German?
No, we use it exatly that way. But we think first of ascetics from the Indian region, mostly Hindus. However, @soulfuldreamer has already explained your relationship to the fakir, especially to the word.
