Shadow Fairy Tale

The shadow of the mountains fell diagonally into the valley and reached all the way to the sea. In the morning, a village lay in this shadow. In the evening, the village lay in the light of the setting sun, which shone from the sea into the valley.

Born and raised in this village, a girl invented a sundial whose hands could tell the time even in the shadow of the mountains with their even darker shadows, even when the sun was not yet shining into the valley.

When the girl was a grown woman, she had perfected her invention: a sundial that could also be read at night. But no one in the village wanted to read the time at night, and so this invention fell into oblivion, while for many, many years the sun shone into the valley every evening.

And an old woman told the children the story of the village whose valley lies between the mountains and the sea like a sundial, waiting for the light, without time.

It is a pity that the girl's invention has been ignored. Many inventions in the history of this world went unnoticed and hidden for a long time, even for centuries. Most of them were too advanced for their time, and have only been recognized much later. A specific example of this is that of the famous inventor who did not get the necessary recognition when he should have, and that only came long after his death... Sometimes I imagine the many inventions that would have come later or if perhaps today there would not be those poles with power lines that sometimes obstruct the view of the landscape.
