Are you familiar with the series “Suits”? The protagonist sneaks into a top law firm as a young but shrewd lawyer. The problem is that he never passed the bar exam. Nevertheless, he is brilliant in his own way. Of course, he gets caught...
Personally, I don't place much value on degrees; I try to see the person in front of me. But even though you portray Julian as very likable, I see him as a liar and an impostor.

I have never seen the series, but I have seen a Mexican movie called “No manches Frida”, in it a thief (ex-convict), arrives at a school and pretends to be a teacher by forging credentials. He is not good in pedagogy, however, he has a great charisma and a high sense of leadership, which makes him change the behavior of the worst students of the institution and gets them to obtain the best grades. In the end he is found out, however, they help him to obtain a degree to practice education. The movie is good. The plot is mostly humorous.
On the other hand, Julian Hernandez is, in effect, an impostor and a liar, because the fact that he has good qualities is not a justification for the action. On the other hand, Gabriel Gonzalez, who is the antagonist, is just arrogant and self-centered and looks out for the interests of the company, even though his mistakes have cost them money.
This is the good thing about writing stories, in it we make the characters be seen from the perspective we want them to be seen, in this case, the bad guy as good: the best of them all, and the good guy as bad: the worst of them all.
