The homesickness is not good always. I know the people who always stick to their homes. No hangouts the social anxiety. Her mom took him on the river side but he was bore. He couldn't enjoy even the nature.
I believe that even we don't want to go outside but we should do.
As in the story the boy was not happy because he get used to sit in front of computer.

I believe if the person get used to sit everytime at home he got the social anxiety. Not feel comfortable outside. And eventually he will stop going outside.

According to my thinking her mother did good to make him outside on his birthday.
