Sus estudios de arte comenzaron cuando tenía 11 años, bajo la tutela del pintor Jacques-Albert Guerín. Pero, luego de la muerte de este, Watteau viajó a París.
Estando en París asistía a reuniones en los que participaban pintores, actores, escritores y músicos.
Participó en el Concurso Prix de Roma, pero no ganó. Esto lo llenó de inseguridad como artista plástico. Así que decepcionado por el resultado obtenido en el concurso, regresó a su ciudad natal. Sin embargo, luego decidió viajar de nuevo a París.
Ahora sí la suerta estaría de su lado, y en 1712 lo nombraron agregado de la Academia.
En el año 1719, el pintor padecía de tisis y viajó a Londres para trata su enfermedad. Al año siguiente regresó a París sin experimentar ninguna mejora, y en el verano del año 1720 falleció a los 37 años de tuberculosis.
A través de sus obras se dio inicio al movimiento que se llamó "fiestas galantes", que consistía en recrear la vida cortesana en contacto con la naturaleza.
En sus obras se pueden encontrar personajes teatrales, conversaciones al aire libre, música y mitología.

His art studies began when he was 11 years old, under the tutelage of the painter Jacques-Albert Guerín. However, after Guerín's death, Watteau traveled to Paris.
While in Paris, he attended gatherings attended by painters, actors, writers, and musicians.
He participated in the Prix de Rome competition, but did not win. This filled him with insecurity as a visual artist. Disappointed by his results in the competition, he returned to his hometown. However, he later decided to travel back to Paris.

In 1719, the painter suffered from consumption and traveled to London to treat his illness. The following year, he returned to Paris without any improvement, and in the summer of 1720, he died of tuberculosis at the age of 37.
Through his works, he launched the movement known as "Fêtes galantes," which consisted of recreating court life in contact with nature.
His works feature theatrical characters, outdoor conversations, music, and mythology.
For this edition, we have selected the following works for you to choose the one you like best to write about: The Love Song (1717), the second, The Indifferent (1717), and the third, The False Step (1716-1718).
