Hotteok: A Taste of Korea with a Homemade Touch.
Hello dear friends,
I hope you all are doing well and spending a beautiful life with your loved ones. I wish you all happiness and peace.
Yesterday, something special happened in our home — we made Hotteok, a popular Korean pancake that’s loved by people of all ages. Hotteok is one of Korea’s most famous winter street foods, often sold hot and fresh on the streets to keep people warm and satisfied. Inspired by this delicious dish, we decided to try it in our own kitchen — and the result was absolutely amazing!
Ingredients and Preparation
The recipe didn’t require anything fancy. We used a few simple ingredients that are easily available in every Bangladeshi kitchen:
Eggs
Flour
Boiled potatoes
A pinch of salt
Sugar
A little milk (to make the dough soft)
We mixed all the ingredients well to form a soft dough, then covered it for a while to make it fluffy. After that, we shaped small round balls, flattened them slightly with our hands, and fried them on a pan with a little oil until they turned golden brown.
Soon, the kitchen filled with a wonderful aroma the kind that makes everyone curious to peek inside and ask, “What’s cooking?”
Serving and Taste
Once cooked, we served the Hotteok warm with tomato sauce. And let me tell you — the combination was heavenly! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, every bite was rich and flavorful. It felt like we were having something straight out of a Korean street food stall, yet made right in our own kitchen.
Even little Nusaiyba, who first thought it was just another snack, asked for another one after her first bite! That moment made everyone smile — because we realized Hotteok might be Korean in origin, but it easily won our Bangladeshi hearts.
Sharing with Neighbors
We didn’t stop at just tasting it ourselves. We shared a few with our neighbors, because good food always tastes better when shared.
Our next-door aunty loved it so much that she said,
“This is even better than what we buy from the store!”
Hearing such compliments truly made our effort worthwhile. Everyone started asking for the recipe and how we learned to make it.
Cooking Brings Joy
Through this little experiment, I realized one important thing. Cooking something new is not just about eating; it’s about sharing happiness.
When the whole family joins together to create a dish, even the smallest kitchen turns into a place of joy and togetherness.
Final Thoughts
In the end, our Hotteok experience was a complete success. It was simple, fun, and incredibly tasty. Next time, we’re planning to experiment with different fillings — maybe chocolate, coconut, or sweet potato.
For anyone who loves trying new dishes at home, I highly recommend giving Hotteok a try. Serve it warm with tomato sauce, and you’ll see bringing the taste of Korea into your own home is easier than you think!
Thanks all
