•빌리루빈이라는 노란 색소가 혈중에 과도하게 축적되면서 피부와 공막이 노랗게 변하는 상태.
•대부분 생리적 황달로 며칠 내 자연 소실되지만, 심한 경우 뇌손상(핵황달)을 유발할 수 있음.

생후 시간 광선치료 시작 기준 (mg/dL)
< 24시간 병적 황달 의심 → 추가 검사 및 감별 필요
24~48시간 약 15 mg/dL 이상
49~72시간 약 18 mg/dL 이상
. > 72시간 약 20 mg/dL 이상
