The Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslih) or Bawaslu of West Aceh Regency officially inaugurated the Participatory Oversight Citizens Forum in Suak Indrapuri Village, Johan Pahlawan District, West Aceh (Indonesia), on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

This forum was established to encourage the active involvement of various communities in overseeing the election process to ensure it is honest, fair, transparent, and democratic, thus gaining public trust.

The Head of the West Aceh Regency Bawaslu, Haswandi, explained that the Citizens Forum in Suak Indrapuri will serve as a pilot project for participatory oversight at every stage of the election and the election process in West Aceh.

"The oversight strategy cannot be carried out solely by Bawaslu; it also requires effective communication and coordination with all stakeholders, including the community. This citizen forum is expected to serve as a forum for conveying aspirations and reporting on alleged violations or potential problems at every stage of the election," Haswandi explained.

He added that the Citizens' Forum can increase the effectiveness of oversight, strengthen community networks, and serve as a means of political education. This way, election oversight will not only rely on the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) but also involve active community participation.

"This forum is a new model for planning election oversight. Its presence is expected to foster a strong sense of oversight within the community, giving them the legitimacy and opportunity to contribute to achieving quality elections," he continued.

Meanwhile, the Head of Suak Indrapuri Village, Sya'ban Lubis, welcomed the establishment of the Citizens' Forum. He stated that it will serve as a platform for public education regarding elections.

"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), we support Bawaslu's move to increase the community's role in election oversight. Twenty-two of our residents have been inaugurated as members of the forum, and we hope they will play a sustainable role in overseeing every stage of the election," he said.
