How do you spell "snege"?

Today was declared a public holiday to honour our ex-Nigerian President, Late President Muhammadu Buhari. The news about his demise came as a rude shock on Sunday. But as our country mourned, I decided to use the opportunity to finish up some piled up tasks.

There were two major things I planned to work on this morning. Like,

  • Writing multiple content for Steemit
  • Drafting e-mails I'd send out later in the week

As I typed, I found myself seriously struggling to remember the spelling of some simple words. These are words I never had issues with. I paused multiple times, trying to remember how to spell “achiac” (archaic), then I tried “snege” (snake) and “sincronise” (synchronise). Gosh!

The only way to remember the word "archaic" was by searching using its synonym "obsolete"

Does any other person spell "snake" this way? 😂

Have you observed that with each passing year, we use less books and type more with our phones or computers? In my case, I have not used a book and pen to draft any post in like four years. So my brain relies on the swift nature of AutoCorrect which predicts my next words, autocapitalises my texts, and finishes my words or sentences once I type out the first two letters or words.

Some days, I use Google voice to write out my speech. However, today, autocorrect was not “correcting”. And my network was so poor that Google voice could not function properly. It would connect, then trip off without writing anything I said.

I was stranded. So I had to depend on my brain this time.

You will agree that these tools, particularly the speech-to-text and glide typing features, help save time. But, honestly, they have also made my brain super lazy.

Right now, I feel like a toddler who is just learning how to walk again.

Imagine this!

I love Grammarly, Google voice and my assistant so…so much! I love how they make my writing, editing and proofreading work so smooth and seamless. But right now, I do not know the level of damage these technological tools and softwares have done to my brain. I plan to purchase a book and pen specifically for writing.

Let it not be heard that an English graduate, a part-time kids' ESL tutor and a Steemit content writer cannot spell “snake”. Where will I hide my face?!

Sort:

Snege got me...😂😂
And na snake you wan spell oo
Like what's that...who even thinks like that...
Omor, be writing always, so you won't forget spellings😂😂
I remember trying one time in exam hall. I forgot how to spell " One ".
I kept writing "Wan" and canceling...
I was like 'this doesn't look like One* to me' But I couldn't help my self. I had to ask my friends. They thought I was joking 😂😂😂

I had to check instructions at the top of my questions paper Answer questions one and any other 4 .
Na instructions save my life that day😂

Yes, one. 😂🤣
I have experienced something similar in the examination hall. Can't remember the word that was giving me issues. Most be Australia and another word. I was stranded.

You know how strict examination supervisors can be. You can't turn to ask other students anything. And I was too embarrassed to call one of them to ask for help.

Somehow, I remembered the word after so many failed attempts.

You know the interesting thing?
I write every day. Every single day.
I publish articles and long-form content on my social media handles back-to-back. I do not use shorthand either.

To make matters worse, I play Scrabble professionally. But when it comes to writing, I use my phone with autocorrect on. Sometimes, it's Google voice doing the job.

Thinking again, I can remember something similar happening when I play Scrabble. You'd play DEID instead of DIED. Both are correct though. But there are other major mistakes like misspelling words like ETAERIO, ANESTRI or ANTSIER.

I have mixed up these words when I had a bingo. The aftermath wasn't pleasant.🤣

It's laughable, some times I forget spellings too and these are words I could spend at a blink. There might just be more to it, maybe old age is calling!

It's a nice idea to purchase pen and book specifically for writing as it will not just improve your spellings but also, your handwriting.

Oh no, not old age!🤧
I mean...we all want to be forever young.
However, having to forget the spelling of simple words got me worried though. I have not panicked like the way I did in a long time. Meanwhile, I got the book. And turned off autocorrect as well.

Time to get my brain super busy.
