At least 18 dead due to heavy rains, flooding in southwestern Japan - SHINE News

Massive flooding and mudslides triggered by torrential rain in the southwestern Japanese prefecture of Kumamoto have left 18 dead and at least 16 others presumed dead on Sunday, local media reported.
The 18 confirmed deaths were mostly in their 60s to 80s, with nine in the city of Hitoyoshi, eight in the town of Ashikita, and one in Tsunagi.
