Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #48
What do you understand by Irrigation systems
A water irrigation system is a man-made application of water that passes through the soil or the crops we have planted above the soil. We use various systems, either tubes or sprays. This normally occurs where there is no rain from the sky or there is not sufficient rainwater needed to grow our plants.
Those who have large farms usually make use of a water irrigation system so that they can make a profit in the process when their is no more abundant food in the market. Many farmers who engage in this method ensure that water reaches different areas where crops are located. Water irrigation plays an important role because it supplies food to everyone in the dry season.
Discuss on the Types of Irrigation systems
These are the following types of water irrigation available in different countries that are primarily practiced in farming.
➡️Drip irrigation system: This type of water irrigation is based on micro irrigation where water passes through the already established pipes and emitters directly into the soil. This method of irrigation is easy to install and maintain in the farm field.
➡️Sprinkler irrigation system: This method is used to pump water to the plants like rainfall through thin nozzles that come from the pipes. Sprinkler irrigation systems are usually permanently or temporarily set up in the center, right, or left so that they can spray the crops we plant.
➡️Surface irrigation system: This method of irrigation is common among local farmers, where they create a way for water to flow into the soil. This distribution of water is usually used when the soil is level so that water can easily penetrate inside. Surface irrigation is also known as flood irrigation.
➡️Subsurface irrigation system: Farmers apply this method by burying the drip so that it can meet the water that plants need in order to germinate. Some farmers consider this an efficient method, and it has been used for a long time by farmers.
What are the Importance of Irrigation systems in Agriculture
• Availability of water irrigation practice systems will ensure continuity of food to be surplus in the market.
• Since we all know that during the dry season, some of the crops that are planted cannot grow, with the presence of an irrigation system, it helps our crops grow due to the amount of water content they need.
• It also reduces poverty as well as improves our economic development as a nation because production will increase, allowing farmers to access import and export their farm products.
• It creates employment opportunities for youth to generate income, which they can use to take care of their families and support themselves.
