Farming is a highly profitable business that a person can venture into. In fact, it is considered one of the major occupations of people in rural areas. Irrigation normally occurs during the absence of rain, so farmers engage in this method to ensure a food surplus for the masses. Irrigation farming can now be defined as the method used by farmers to water the plants or crops they have planted on the farm.

Irrigation systems are normally used on the target crops to ensure they grow at a good level. Because farmers do not always wait for rain to occur, they need to adopt this method of irrigation to ensure that people enjoy the quality taste of food at the right time.

The following are the roles of irrigation on modern Agriculture:

➡️Promoting crop growth: Water is important for the growth of crops; in fact, it also provides photosynthesis to the plants as well as improves plant health. Insufficient rain will not allow crops to grow, so with the presence of irrigation, crops can thrive during the dry season.

➡️Stability of food production: An increase in food production will continue to happen in the country if farmers rely heavily on rainfall. As a result of the irrigation system on our farms, there will be stability in food supply, and food will also be cheap and predictable among the local dwellers.

➡️Supporting different kinds of crops: The irrigation farming system plays an essential role in modern agriculture because it allows farmers to plant more than one crop in a year, as well as to generate income to support themselves and their families.

➡️Poverty reduction: The irrigation system also reduces poverty in the country, especially where farmers put in more effort by ensuring that food is available in the market. It reduces poverty significantly so that farmers can rely on irrigation methods to survive.
