This week agriculture show itself to me in many small ways, almost like it followed me around quietly. On Monday morning, I chewed roasted corn from the roadside woman, it was soft and sweet, the kind of taste that hang in your mouth even after you finish. I don’t know why but that corn gave me power, I just felt more alive that day.

Tuesday happen different. I thought the day will pass without farm things, but my mother carried basket of tomatoes and told me to wash them. I even groaned because I was tired, but as I washed, the bright red color made me calm. It was strange, that ordinary job turn peaceful for me.

Then Wednesday was tough. Aunt said come help peel cassava. At first I didn’t want, it was messy and rough on my hands. But while we sit down peeling, people started telling stories and we laughed plenty. Later that cassava became garri, and when I ate it the next day, I smiled inside because I know my own hand was part of that food.

Thursday bring me a kind of small blessing. I picked pepper and green leaves from our little backyard garden. Sold them to a neighbor woman who didn’t even pay much, but I took the money and bought airtime. I felt proud even though it was little, like farming quietly sponsored my need for that day.

Friday evening I cooked noodles. Normally it will just be plain and quick, but I cut fresh vegetables from the garden and added them inside. The food looked colorful, tasted sweeter, and it filled my belly better. Agriculture made that plate richer, that’s how I saw it.

Saturday morning me and my younger brother carried buckets to water the garden. The plants were dry, leaves almost looking dead. But as we poured water, they lifted slowly, like they wanted to thank us. That view gave me happiness I can’t explain well. It felt like giving life.

On Sunday, family gathered. Rice was on the fire, stew on the side, and fresh vegetables from the backyard were inside the pot. The smell filled the whole house. When we sat together to eat, laughter went round the table. That meal showed me how food from farm connect people.

Looking back, every day this week, agriculture touched me in one way or another. Sometimes it gave me food, sometimes a little cash, other times peace in my heart or closeness with family. Farming is not just far away tractors and big land, it is also here, in my hands, in my mouth, in my pocket, and in my home.
