Hello friends, today I have come to participate in this beautiful competition, and the topic of the competition is the role of irrigation in modern agriculture, which is a very good topic for me, and agriculture is closely related to our lives, but naturally, agriculture was never completely reliable. If there is no rain at the right time, agriculture is damaged and therefore, irrigation is the main driving force of agricultural production. And farmers used to depend on seasonal rains, but weather changes, climate crisis, and irregular rainfall have put agriculture at risk and irrigation technology in modern agriculture has reduced this risk, and it has given farmers the freedom to produce crops. Now it is possible to cultivate at any time of the year without waiting for seasonal rains. Through irrigation, water can be supplied to the land at a specific time, and as a result, the crop grows properly and the production increases many times. Research shows that where modern irrigation is used, the crop production almost doubles.

For example, the contribution of irrigation in all fields such as rice, wheat, corn or vegetables is undeniable and earlier Farmers could grow crops for one or two seasons in a year, but due to modern irrigation systems, cultivation is now possible all year round and winter vegetables, summer fruits or monsoon rice are being produced in all these seasons and this is increasing the income of the farmers and ensuring the food security of the country and now multi-purpose crops are being produced on the same land. Along with rice or wheat, vegetables, pulses, oilseeds, or fruits are being cultivated, and farmers are benefiting from producing diverse crops. As a result, the people of the country are also getting various nutritious foods, there is diversity in food, the financial condition of the farmers is improving, and soil fertility is maintained through proper irrigation. If there is excess water, salinity is created, and if there is no water, the soil dries up. Irrigation controls the moisture of the soil; as a result, the land remains fertile in the long term, and farmers can keep the land healthy and productive by using modern technology.

In modern agriculture, technology-based irrigation is widely popular, and farmers are benefiting a lot from the supply of water through drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation or pipelines. This reduces the wastage of water, and the plants get the required water at the right time. And technology-based irrigation is making agriculture more modern and sustainable. Through drip irrigation, water is given little by little to the base of the tree and it does not accumulate excess water in the soil and there is no waste of water and it is especially effective in vegetable and fruit gardens and in this method the tree is always fresh and the production quality is much improved and in sprinkler irrigation, water is sprinkled like rain and it is especially beneficial in dry areas. It is used more in wheat, tomato, potato or flower cultivation, and in this irrigation method, the entire land gets wet evenly, and as a result, the tree grows evenly and production increases, and it is a very effective technology for the farmer.

Tubewell irrigation is playing an important role in the agriculture of Bangladesh. Groundwater is lifted from shallow and deep tubewells and supplied to the land, and rural farmers can easily use this system. Although there is a risk of lowering the water level if excess groundwater is used, it is still widely used in agriculture, and the country's food security is ensured through irrigation. The population is constantly increasing, and with it, the demand for food is increasing. If it were to depend only on rain, it would have been possible to feed so many people. No, this irrigation technology is reducing food shortages by increasing crop production and providing reliable food to the people of the country. Irrigation also has a huge impact on the economy. When crop production increases, the income of farmers increases and agricultural products are sold in the market and providing raw materials for the industry, and this creates employment. In agriculture-dependent countries, the main strength of the national economy is agriculture, and irrigation has given new momentum and potential to that agriculture.

However, there are some problems with the irrigation system. If excess groundwater is used, water shortages occur, and dependence on electricity and fuel for irrigation increases and sometimes water wastage and soil salinity can increase. Therefore, the use of the irrigation system must be done through sustainable and proper planning. Some steps are necessary for a sustainable irrigation system, such as using water-saving technology and launching cooperative irrigation projects for rainwater conservation and training farmers. In addition, if government support and research are increased, the effectiveness of the irrigation system will increase manifold and in this way, agriculture can be made more sustainable. Irrigation is the lifeblood of modern agriculture. It has given a modern look to agriculture and given confidence to farmers, and provided food security to the country. Irrigation not only increases crops but also improves the quality of life of farmers. So we should take agriculture further by utilizing the irrigation system properly.
