Greetings Everyone!

Hope that you all are well and doing good. So today I am going to participate in the Steem-Agro community contest which is Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #43. It's my second time that I am doing this contest and I must say that with the help of this it enhances my knowledge and it is also very informative. So without wasting any time let's start.

Discuss on Aquaculture.

The raising of aquatic organisms like fish, aquatic plants and other sea creatures in fresh water or marine water is known as aquaculture and it is also called fish farming. It is important for meeting the increasing demand for seafood around the world while decreasing the impact of wild fish populations. In many countries aquaculture also helps sustain livelihood, provides food security and promotes economic growth.

Discuss on the types of Aquaculture.

1. Mariculture:

It involves the raising of marine creatures in water or in specially designed ecosystems. Seaweed, oysters and marine fish like salmon are some of the examples of the mariculture.

2. Freshwater Aquaculture:

The raising of aquatic life in freshwater tanks, lakes, rivers and ponds is called freshwater aquaculture. It includes freshwater prawns, catfish and goldfish.

3. Brackish Water Aquaculture:

This type is carried in freshwater and mix of salt like environments such as in beaches and wetlands. Examples are prawns, milkfish and various types of crabs.

4. Integrated Multi Trophic Aquaculture:

A method where different kinds of species are are raised together such that the waste for one species is used as the nutrients for another species. To reduce the waste fish, shellfish and seaweed are raised together.

Talk about the challenges encountered in Aquaculture and the solutions to those problems.

Aquaculture or fish farming faces several challenges which require several solutions to maintain productivity and sustainability. The most common issue is the waste management and water pollution where chemical substances, fish wastes and remaining food can build up and pollute water and it can also damage the nearby ecosystems. This problem can be solved by implementing environmental friendly nourishment techniques and utilising waste treatment facilities can help to reduce the pollution. The other issue is the outbreak of diseases, since the large number of crops are open to parasites and diseases so it can led to significant losses. So the solution is to maintain proper water quality, using vaccinations and implementing strict security measures to avoid any of the diseases that could damage the crops and the lives of several species. The overuse of chemicals and antibiotics is also big issue as a heavy dependence on drugs also result in antibiotic resistance and have a negative impact on the environment and human health. To solve this problem, natural disease prevention techniques and strict chemical usage guidelines should be encouraged to save human lives and make the atmosphere clean and clear.
The eco friendly farming methods, habitat conservation and choosing the locations with responsibility can reduce the environmental damage that have been brought by the loss of biodiversity, water pollution and the aquaculture that has been poorly managed. Due to the high cost of food supply, facilities, disease control and high production costs is a big problem for small scale producers. This problem can be reduced by creating affordable local food backups, training farmers and promoting cooperative farming.
