Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #38

Hello everyone, on this occasion, I would like to participate in a contest held by @hive-118902 about the Steem-agro Contest: "Basic Agricultural Knowledge #38." Following my previous entry, I would like to invite my friends @sabbirakib @anjinoor @chiagoziee to participate in this contest.

Causes of Food Insecurity
There may be a number of reasons why a family is food insecure. First, climate change in the form of droughts, floods and extreme weather disrupts agricultural production. Secondly,poverty is itself a large cause since people do not have the purchasing power to buy food. Third, war and civil unrest can interfere with the food supply and destroy agricultural infrastructure. In addition, food imports leave the country susceptible to international price changes.

Food Security Issues
Additionally, post-harvest losses and imbalances in distribution result in a great deal of food being lost before it reaches the consumer. Productive land is also threatened by the transformation of agricultural land into industrial or residential areas.

Solutions to Improve Food Security
A combined strategy is therefore necessary to tackle both of these issues. First, the government must intensify support for farmers, including training, technological advice and fertilizer and seed subsidies. Second, there is requirement for the development of appropriate agricultural and irrigation infrastructure and more efficient distribution system to avoid post-harvest loss. Thirdly, sustainable agriculture practices that are good for the climate are also essential. Moreover, increasing local and national food stocks and diversifying local foods such as sago, corn, and tubers could serve as an option.

Food Insecurity is no joke and needs addressing by all parties. Good food security provides not only food availability but also guarantees a fair access to and distribution of food among population strata. A partnership between government, private sector and communities is required to develop a more resilient, adaptive and sustainable food system.
