Weight Loss in an Obese Lady Vs Natural Conception

Obesity is a worldwide phenomenon. When the BMI is equal to or greater than 30, it is considered obesity. According to the WHO facts sheet, in 2022, one in eight people in the world were living with obesity.

Obesity comes in a party! Many noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are directly or indirectly related to obesity. According to the WHO

In 2021, higher-than-optimal BMI caused an estimated 3.7 million deaths from noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, neurological disorders, chronic respiratory diseases, and digestive disorders.

In the ladies, besides other complications, obesity leads to infertility! To get a child, they often opt for the costly IVF (in vitro fertilisation) option. But, it doesn't give 100% certainty! However, weight loss increases the odds of conception, either naturally or via IVF! A new study revealed it.

A new data analysis showed that the group of obese women who participated in the weight loss programs (diet program, exercise, and weight loss medications) were 47% more likely to become pregnant naturally (without IVF procedure) than the group of women without any weight loss program. The researchers analysed 12 international trials. The study population was 1921 women!

Saturday Diary

Like the previous few Saturdays, I worked as a relieving doctor in another clinic on this Saturday. I think I have to work there two more Saturdays in the month of August. From next month onward, another doctor will be sent there as the relieving doctor!

This Saturday, I consulted 24 patients in the chamber. The number was higher than the previous Saturday! A good number of Bangladeshi patients visited me there. We also get a good number of old patients there (in comparison to my usual workplace). In that clinic, there is no visa medical center. Hence, no fitness tests!

One of the patients, who took a painkiller injection, fainted in the pharmacy. He was asked to wait for at least 5 minutes on the bed before going outside. He didn't listen. He left immediately after receiving the injection. He was in the pharmacy (in the same building) and fainted there. Lucky him that he didn't faint in the street! We brought him back to bed! He became well after a short period.

At home, I couldn't walk on the treadmill. Hence, I couldn't make 5k steps on Saturday. I skipped the afternoon nap. I worked on the laptop and helped my son with his studies.

Okay. That's all for today. Alhamdulillah, I am alive, healthy, and thriving. How about you?
