RE: Yoga on your period? And how I have learned to honor my cycle
This has been an eye opener for me. We do indeed just push through our periods, because we can't stop for a day and not turn up for work.
"If I had the opportunity, I would free bleed in the woods, letting the earth receive my blood."
I recently read an article on how women across the world each do different things to absorb their blood on their cycles. One woman in an African country said that she sits over a hole in the earth. At the time it baffled me, because I thought that you surely couldn't just sit on the ground for your whole period. Now, after reading this, I wonder if that is what we originally did. Rest and let the Earth take our blood. Maybe if we did that most of the bleeding would be over after the first day of rest.

Thank you for your kind words! I’m glad you got something out of reading this post. Yes there’s so much wisdom around the moon cycle and bleeding in various ancient cultures. In some cultures all the women who bleed gather and free bleed together, when you live close to each other your cycles tend to synchronize. I feel there’s something really powerful in that.
I wonder if that's why women synchronise. It would certainly be easier to pass the free bleeding time in company, than alone.
Have y'all heard of a "red tent?" It's something of a ritual that I've heard of in passing on a lot of podcasts. Herbalist and witch conventions often have one set up for anyone needing it, but I'm not sure what all it entails. Sounds relevant to this conversation though.
And I wonder the significance of women syncing up too... I wonder how it'd play into fertility rituals in ancient cultures, making somewhat of a "breeding season," if you will. Lots of things to explore when you bring up the menstrual cycle.
I haven't heard of the red tent. Hopefully it is to do with cycles and not something more sinister. 😨😉
I can end up going down all sorts of rabbit holes when it comes to thinking about how our traits, habits and peculiarities, both mental and physical, originated. It's a real journey of discovery and I love it!
I’m happy to explore this more in future posts 🙂
