United Buddy Bears
Buddy Bears are painted, life-size fiberglass bear sculptures developed by German businesspeople Klaus and Eva Herlitz, in cooperation with sculpor Roman Strobl. They originate in Berlin, are now a landmark of Berlin and are considered unofficial ambassadors of Germany. The first bears were displayed at an artistic event in Berlin in 2001.
‘United Buddy Bears’ is an international art exhibition with more than 145 two-meter tall fiberglass bears. They are on exhibition in Singapore now. Supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Germany in Singapore, the exhibition commemorates 60 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Germany.
Set against the backdrop of the Supertrees, this iconic exhibition that originated in Berlin in 2002 brings together 150 life-sized Buddy Bears to Singapore for the first time. Each of the 145 bears represent a different country and have been painted by an artist of that nation. Of course, Singapore has her own bear too. Another five ‘special’ bears representing values and principles complete the ensemble.
The outstretched arms of the standing Buddy Bear symbolises friendliness and optimism. Standing hand in hand in two large circles, each bear is a vibrant symbol of unity, sending a heart-warming message of tolerance, international understanding, and a shared vision for a peaceful world.
Under the motto: "We have to get to know each other better, it makes us understand one another better, trust each other more, and live together more peacefully", Berlin Buddy Bears have been committed to peaceful coexistence between people of different origins, cultures and religions. So far, the United Buddy Bears, ‘Art of Tolerance’ exhibitions have had 36 exhibitions in five continents.
Donations and proceeds from the sales of the bears at auctions are in support of UNICEF and local non-profit organizations that help children in need.
The Buddy Bears are on display at the supertree grove at the Gardens by the Bay until the 12 of Oct 2025. Admission is free.
A few photos of the exhibition from my visit earlier in the week.

An interesting and informative review. I was impressed by the photo of the giant trees.
An exhibition that promotes brotherhood, which is so lacking in today's world.
Thank you for your review of this exhibition.

Thank you for stopping by and for your kind words.
Yes, an admirable, and worthy cause - using arts to promote a peaceful world and donating the proceeds from the sales of the bears to UNICEF and local non-profit organizations that help children in need.
I thank you for your support. Much appreciated.
