đ¸ âNa the multiplication table wey I sabi from primary school help me price yam well for market ooo!â
That was what my old uncle said last week after he came back from the Market. He was really struggling with a stubborn yam seller over the yam price. The man was selling five tubers for âĻ3,500, trying to fool my uncle and my uncle quickly calculated that one tuber was âĻ700. He then priced it down to âĻ600 per tuber and finally he walked away with a better price. The seller was really shocked, saying, âAh ah, you be accountant?â My uncle laughed and replied, âNo o, na basic education oo!â and they both laughed.
That incident reminded me how the small things we learn in schoolâlike multiplication tables, reading signs, or even writing our namesâcan build how we survive and succeed in our everyday life. Basic education is not just about wearing beautiful uniforms or just carrying books to school. Itâs the key foundation that really helps us to think smart, act right, and live better Life. Does basic education still matters today!? Let's check out...

In my own knowledge,Basic education, is that kind of learning that gives someone the foundation to live a meaningful life now and in the future. Itâs not just about someone knowing how to read and writeâitâs all about understanding how to behave well, how to solve small problems, and how to relate with different people, even how to Cook.

Some people, usually think of basic education as what children get from nursery, primary, and junior secondary school. However, it just more than classroom work or assignments. For example, when a little child learns how to greet elders properly, how to wash their hands properly before eating and after eating, or how to just cross the road safely, thatâs also part of basic education. Itâs also the kind of knowledge that helps anyone to survive and grow well in the society.
Morever, I can surely remember when I was in Primary 4, how our teacher used to teach us how to save little money using a small box as a bank. That simple lesson from him helped me a lot to understand the value of money and how to spend, early in my life. Infact basic education is something small, but very useful to us.
đ§ According to you, what things should have been included in the basic education? Explain!
Honestly, there are many things I feel it should have been added to basic education to make it more complete and really practical:
Money consumption: Surely, children should learn how to manage money very well, save, and even understand small business ideas to help them while growing up. Even if itâs just how to sell sachet water and make good profits. It will really helps them to think more smarter.
Mental Health study: Truly, many young people grow up not knowing how to handle stress, sadness, or pressure. Basic education should also include and teach children how to talk about their feelings and seek help when they need it.
Earning Skills: However,we all know that not everybody will like go to the university. So in that very case ,teaching things like tailoring, farming, hairdressing, or even how to repair phones from an early stage can help surely helps children to discover their talents and earn some money using their talents or the skills.
Real Technology study: In todayâs world, knowing how to use a computer or phone properly is very important, because we use them every single day in our day to day task. Even in villages, children should be taught how to use basic apps and understand online much better.
Studying Civic Education with Real-Life Examples: Instead of just going to the class to teach government structure or topics, let the children learn how to be good citizens in their real life, how to report bad behavior to the government, and how to contribute positively to their community.
For example, in my area, many young people donât really know how to write a simple letter or fill a form in case of job.. If basic education included practical things like pre writing a CV or applying for a job, it would really help a lot.
đą Do you believe basic education plays a vital role in our growth? Explain how?

Yes o! no doubt,Basic education is just like the root of a big treeâwithout it, the tree cannot stand strong or grow well no matter how big it is. Here is why I said so:...
Personal Growth: Basic education helps someone to know who they are and what they can become and what they can do in day to day life. A child who learns how to read early can later become a good lawyer, teacher, or even a content writer. Basic education just opens the mind of all.
Social Development: When children are taught how to respect their elders and others, share, and work together, they grow up to be better members of society, and not bad people. It reduces crime and promotes much peace.
Economic Empowerment: With basic education, people can get small jobs, start businesses, or even teach others. It reduces poverty. I know one woman in my street who didnât finish secondary school, but because she learned how to read and write in primary school, she now runs a small shop and keeps proper records.
Nation Building: A country where people are educated from the grassroots will grow faster. They will vote wisely, obey laws, and contribute to development.
In short, I can say that, basic education is not just about passing examsâitâs about preparing someone for the life ahead of them. Itâs the first step to becoming useful to ourself, our family, and our country.
