Hello stemians and happy weekend

Basic Education My Thoughts

When people talk about education, the first thing that comes to mind is school. We see classrooms flags building chalkboards teachers, and students But education is more than it. It is the process and ways of acquiring knowledge skills values and tenets that guide our lives. when we Break this down to basic education, we are referring to the foundational stage of learning that is the intro beginning with primary school and extending into junior secondary school. It is called basic because it is the ground upon which every other kind of education is built.

For me basic education is more than the normal teaching of children how to read or write It is the stage where the mind is first shaped and prepared for the realities of life. Here young people are introduced not just to books but also to discipline habits and the social values that will carry them into adulthood. Without this stage or foundation every other stage of education is probability

What I Think Should Have Been Included in Basic Education

As a child I often wondered why we were taught certain things in school that had little or no effect on our lives outside the classroom. Example we were taught and told to memorize mathematical formulas definitions and tough science symbols while important life skills were hardly or not mentioned. If I had an opportunity to redesign the idea of basic education, there are some things I strongly believe should be included alongside the usual reading and writing.

  1. Real Life Skills
Due to the situation of the world today,Children should be taught how to handle life situations from their growing stage . money management, for instance should be introduced. Some adults today struggle with adequate budgeting, saving, or even understanding simple financial terms because no one enlightened them early so it will be wise to include this in the early education. Teaching children how to spend wisely and plan ahead would save them from making avoidable mistakes in future

  2. Proper communication and Emotional Intelligence
Knowing how to read and write is luxury, but knowing how to communicate effectively is even better. From beginning stage, children should be guided on how to express themselves clearly, listen actively, and resolve conflicts peacefully. Alongside that, emotional intelligence which includes understanding and managing their emotions as well as respecting the emotions of others should be a core part of basic education. These skills would help create healthier individuals and better societies.

  1. Civic and Moral Education
Basic education should include deep lessons on citizenship studies honesty, respect for others, and responsibility. It should not just be about reciting the national pledge or anthem, but about making children understand why values like fairness, empathy, and kindness matter in society. Imagine if from childhood we were all trained to see corruption as a disease, lying as
death and respect as strength our world would be a much better place if not so better than what we have

  2. Creativity and Vocational Skills
We should do away with forcing young people to become doctors nurses lawyers and the rest but also teach and instill into them the dignity of labour hard work and creativity . Basic education should expose children to their natural talents early enough. Whether it is painting, music, cooking, carpentry, or sports, these skills should be nurtured alongside academics. Giving children this balance would reduce the pressure on the formal job market and open doors to entrepreneurship and innovation.

The Role of Basic Education in Growth

Now to the big question: Does basic education play a vital role in our growth? My answer is a yes. I believe it is one of the most powerful tools that shape who we become.

  1. Helps Build a Strong Foundation
Basic education just like the foundation of a house If weak, the house cannot stand tall no matter how much it is decorated it will definitely collapse In the same way, if a child is not properly grounded in basic education, higher education becomes a struggle. The ability to think critically, solve problems, and interact with others all starts at this level.

  2. It Shapes Our Worldview
What we learn at a young age often sticks to our brain for as long as it stays The values, morals, and habits introduced during basic education become part of our daily character. If a child learns honesty, hard work, and respect in primary school, these values will guide them even when they grow older the holy book says
train up a child in the way he should go when he is old he will not depart from it That is why this stage is so important it shapes how we see ourselves and the world

  3. It Reduces Inequality
One of the most beautiful things about basic education is that it is meant for everyone, regardless of background. It gives every child equal chance to live above the circumstances of their birth. A poor child who gains quality basic education has a chance to compete with the rich one in the future. Without it, inequality increases and society suffers more division.

  1. It Opens Doors to Higher Learning
Higher education rests on the pillars of basic education. A person cannot study medicine without first understanding basic biology. An engineer cannot run designs of machines without first having Basic knowledge of Arithmetic and physics This implies that without basic education, progress in any other field becomes almost impossible.

Conclusion

Basic education, in my view, is not just about teaching children the normal alphabet or figures or ensuring the pass exams but It is about preparing them for life itself. It should not just focus on touching only the brain but also the heart, the hands, and the habits. If we as a society can widen what is taught at this stage to include practical life skills, emotional intelligence, health, creativity, and values, then we will be raising generations of not just literate people, but responsible and productive citizens.

In summary basic education is not something we should take for granted. It is a necessity as it is the first step to independence, and the foundation upon which the future of individuals and nations is built.

I took time to read every everything you wrote one after the other. First of all I must say you write on the tone I like most.... Simple to understand.

You made a very important point about basic education.... It like a foundation but I noticed that this foundation is not strongly build. We were not taught the reality. We were how to study hard, so that we can have a well paid job. When after I left secondary school sometime I will just sit down and think: why didn't they teach the reality of life. Why don't we study financial education?

I know we somehow taught how to saving on notebooks but the reality is more than that. They teach us to stay away from loan while in reality rich people are using loan to build my wealth.

I think financial education should be included in our basic education.
