Yes, I believe advanced technologies open the door to advanced crimes. Today, it is even hard for me to differentiate between AI-generated video and original video in Nigeria, which is creating problems in our society. Advanced technologies have made things easier for criminal activities as criminals can use AI tools to commit sophisticated crimes. For example;

  • Criminals are using AI deepfakes to create realistic videos or voice clips of CEO or lovers to deceive victims.

  • The anonymity of cryptocurrency, where it has to identify the owner of a wallet, has enabled fraud and money laundering.

Do you believe we need an antidote before launching any technology? Justify.

Yes, I believe we need an antidote before launching any technology for safety. Just like medicine cannot be handed over without testing side effects, technology should do the same.

  • Antidote is necessary to prevent damage
  • For ethical responsibility
  • For public trust in people's data

Just like the seatbelt in a vehicle is part of every car, security and ethical rules should be integrated into every technology.

Some of the tips through which we can alert old family members are:

  • By teaching them the basics of fake links, phishing links, and calls that are scams.

  • By telling them not to share their personal information like ATM pin, BVN, and password with anyone, even a staff member in the bank.

  • By installing an antivirus to protect their device
