Introducing The Noni Tree and its fruit.
The Noni (Vomit) Tree.
The Noni tree and its fruit should have a category of its own. On a similar post uploaded last week, the spotlight was in the Sandbox tree with a bold sign that says, stay away.
Today, we shall be exploring the unique properties of the Noni tree and its fruit. Now, for the purpose of uniformity, let's identify this tree as Morinda citrifolia
This fruit is called by many local names, some of which are interestingly descriptive. Some call it the vomit fruit because it has a pungent odour when it fully ripens. Smelling like old cheese giving it the nickname rotten cheese fruit.
This fruit is not very appealing to the eyes, offensive to the nose and the taste is not even helping the situation. It is known for its strong, bitter taste and numbing effect on your tongue and entire mouth. That is why some call it pain killer plant due to its potential analgesic effects.
Poor looks, bad taste and odd flavour all on one fruit. But it is produced all year round by its tree, making it the available source of food in times of severe farmin, earning it the name farmin fruit.
Description
The noni grows on a shrub, with branches that have a characteristic square shape, holding big leaves that come out on both sides of the branch. The branches shoot out closer to the ground, creating that densely packed, bushy appearance.
The fruits on the Noni tree are found in different stages all year round. So a single tree will have newly emerging flowers among those who are yet to emerge. Some new fruits side by side with fully ripen fruits. The ever-bearing nature of the noni tree helps it produce food and medicine all year round.
In this single picture above, you can see the fruits on the noni tree in its different stages. The fully ripe -the unripe - the newly developing and those in the flowering stage.
If you can ignore the unpleasant smell and taste, the noni fruit is packed with carbohydrates to take care of your energy needs. It also comes with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to take care of you. The root, sterm, leaves, fruit and seed are all useful as food, drink or medicine.
Posts like this are the main reason why the Noni fruit is becoming increasingly expensive in the market. Planting one will be a smart choice.
Get its seed or a growing seedling 🌱. It loves tropical or subtropical areas with warm temperatures and well-draining soil. Too many trees around it can have adverse effects on the tree. It hates the forest.
I am inviting the following Steemian to say what they know about the Noni tree or fruits, how popular is it where you live?, how long have you known it? And how do you deal with its flavour. @alexanderpeace, @ninapenda, @okere-blessing and @rubee2as1

The fruit of this tree alone scared me. I can't look at it twice. Thanks for enlightening me about it's medicinal value.
Hahhaha
Another strange tree
Where do you get these trees from?😂
