Contest 36 | Your Favorite Outfit This Week.

Hi Steemit community,

My favorite outfit this week wasn’t mine — it was my mom’s. I don’t even know how to explain it fully, but there’s something about the way she looked in that dress that just made me feel proud, happy, and even emotional. It wasn’t about how expensive it was, but how beautiful, graceful, and confident she looked in it.

She wore a green Ankara gown to church on Sunday, and from the moment she stepped out of the house, I couldn’t stop looking at her. I even told her, “Mommy, you look really beautiful today.” She just smiled and said thank you, the way she always does, but I could tell she felt good too.

The gown wasn’t one of those loud, shiny styles. It was simple but very elegant. The fabric had different tones of green, with small touches of brown and black. The tailor did a great job the puffed sleeves, the fitting at the waist, and the full-length design just brought everything together nicely.

We live in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and Ankara is a big part of our fashion here. You can wear it to weddings, church, birthdays almost every event. But that particular Sunday, my mom stood out to me more than anyone else. Maybe it’s because I was the one who tied her gele. Or maybe it’s because I’m now grown enough to notice the little things that used to go past me as a child.

I took her picture that day (I’ve attached it here), and each time I look at it, I smile. Sometimes, beauty isn’t in makeup or how much you spend it’s in how you carry yourself and the love around you. That dress reminded me that you don’t need to wear designer clothes to look expensive. My mom made that outfit shine with just her presence.

So, yeah out of everything I saw this week, that green Ankara gown is my top outfit of the week. And I’ll remember it not just because it was beautiful, but because of the bond and the joy it brought.

  • Why I love it: Simple, graceful, emotional memoryWhat made the day extra special for me was that I tied her gele for her. I don’t always do that, but that morning I offered to help. She sat down, and I wrapped it slowly, trying my best not to make mistakes. When I finished and she looked at herself in the mirror, she smiled, and I knew I had done a good job. That moment stayed with me. It felt like one of those quiet memories you’ll remember years from now.

She told me she sewed the dress for just ₦4,500. I honestly don’t know how much the fabric cost because she didn’t say, but knowing my mom, she probably got it at a good price. She knows how to buy quality things without spending too much . I’m still trying to learn that from her.

But in that dress, she didn’t look like someone wearing something cheap. She looked like a queen. Her poise, the confidence, the peace on her face… everything just came together so beautifully. I think that’s what really made me love the outfit it wasn’t just the dress, it was how she wore it.

She paired it with a small black handbag and her wristwatch. No flashy jewelry, nothing overdone. Just a simple, clean look that spoke volumes.

Thanks so much for reading. I know it’s just an outfit, but sometimes the stories behind clothes mean more than we realize.
