First, you have to share your knowledge about swelling, its type, and pathophysiology. (Explain only 4 types, no need for extensive knowledge)

Swelling:

We also know swelling as edema, which means that there is an abnormal increase in our body. It is often caused by the accumulation of fluid in the tissues. It can occur externally or within the skin. It can be seen on various organs. Its main symptom is that the fluid balance in the body deteriorates. Swelling also occurs due to heart and kidney problems. Such problems are often seen.

Signs & Symptoms of Swelling:

The signs and symptoms of swelling are that we notice a heaviness or a clear increase in something in the affected area, we also feel pain there, and our skin looks much tighter or stretched. Sometimes we feel an indentation when we press on this area, which we also call pitting. That area is often shiny and visible.

The area where we have swelling often feels warm and tender, and we can often feel pain there. All movements around our joints are very limited.

Types of Swelling:

There are many types of swelling, but the following is an explanation of some of them:

  • 01:Localized Swelling:

Local swelling occurs in any specific part of the body, such as in our ankle or on a finger, or around any piece of skin. This swelling usually occurs in places where we have an infection or an injury, etc. This inflammation occurs in response to it.

Since the cause is limited to one area, the swelling does not spread much, and we often feel warmth or pain in it. For example, our insect bite causes swelling, or a sprained joint is included in this.

  • 02:Generalized Swelling:

Generalized swelling means that it is not limited to one place but affects large areas throughout the body. This type of swelling is often seen in situations where we have kidney disease, heart disease, or malnutrition, as a result of which you see swelling all over the body.

This occurs when there is a disruption in the fluid balance in the blood vessels, causing fluid to accumulate in all tissues of the body. People with swelling can usually see it in their hands, stomach, face, and legs.

  • 03:Pitting Swelling:

Pitting swelling means that if we press with our finger on the area where we have swelling, a pit appears there that remains for some time before disappearing. This usually happens because the fluid that causes the swelling is easily displaced under pressure.

We also call this abdominal edema. It is usually seen due to heart failure or kidney disease, or usually due to liver disease. When there is a change in blood pressure or protein levels, then excess fluid accumulates in the tissue, which causes us to have these pitting swellings.

  • 04:Non-Pitting Swelling:

Non-pitting swelling is very firm and does not create an indentation if we press on it. This is because the fluid is bound to proteins, which thickens the tissue greatly, reducing pressure.

Nonpitting edema is most commonly seen in lymphedema. It is usually much more chronic in nature, and the swelling feels much heavier or harder than soft and firm.

Pethophysiology:

It refers to the study of how a disease is a condition that changes the normal state of the body or explains how what goes wrong at the cellular, tissue, and organ level within our bodies, which causes symptoms of the disease.

In simple terms, physiology tells us how our body works, and it also tells us how things stop working during illness.

For example, if the normal fluid flow between blood vessels and tissue in the lungs is often disrupted, physiology tells us that increased pressure in the blood vessels or damage to the lymphatic system is causing fluid to leak out and accumulate, causing swelling.

You have to find a patient with the symptom and share the history of injury or illness. You can also share your history, too, if you have suffered from any injury recently that is present by the symptom of swelling.

Personal Injury

Since I am a football player and while playing football, we often get injuries that cause swelling in the same place. Sometimes when we kick while playing football, we often hit the wrong foot, so there is a lot of pressure on a finger or thumb, due to which only that finger or thumb becomes swollen.

Once it happened that I was carrying a football. There was another boy ahead of me at high speed. He put his leg in front of me. When I hit his leg, I jumped and fell. When I fell, my hands went down and touched the ground, which put a lot of pressure on my wrist and caused the joint to protrude a little.

When the bone in my wrist came out slightly, it caused swelling all over my hand. I have dealt with many such diseases where I used to get swollen because, as a player, when we have to run with each other, we get a lot of injuries, and because of these injuries, it gets a lot of swelling, so this is one of them.

My Mother Swelling History

My mother often gets swollen because she had an accident. Due to the accident, her leg was broken, due to which a rod was inserted and screws, etc., were attached. Often, when there is pressure on it or when there is pain due to walking too much, the top of the leg and the top of the foot become swollen.

Since my mother has had an operation that has resulted in a rod being inserted inside, she often gets swollen if she works too hard, and the best treatment for her is to rest for a while. When she rests, the swelling automatically starts to go down.

Usually, if my mother works in the morning, it swells up during the afternoon, and often her feet swell up during work, so she has to rest until the next morning, and it is completely healed by the next morning.

It would be better if you treat the patient's pain by performing or applying above above-given physiotherapy management, share videos or pictures while performing, and then review after getting treatment.

Physical Therapy Intervention for Pain

Compression:

As I told you earlier, there was a lot of pressure on my wrist, which caused the tissues to tear and form a lump. The doctor suggested that you put a bandage over it. This will reduce your pain, and your tissues will also improve. I had these crepe compression bandages that I tied around my arm and wore them for three to four days straight, and then I was really good.

The bandage I had had a starting and ending point. I started it with my thumb first and wrapped it around my thumb and over my entire hand, making sure I didn't wrap it too tightly to keep my blood circulating. This often happens. If you wrap it tightly, it stops the blood circulation, which causes more swelling.

After three to four days of use, I felt much better, and the swelling that was there had completely gone down; a slight lump remained on my bone. By applying a bandage over it for another two to three days, God willing, that too will go away. So I fully believe in physiotherapy. I have been to my illnesses many times, as I do, because I have to face many injuries during football, so during this time, we have to improve ourselves by using physiotherapy like this.

Putting a compression bandage on my hand has eliminated the swelling, and it has proven to be very effective.

I would like to invite my friends @crismenia, @mohammadfaisal, and @miftahulrizky to join this challenge.
