Weekly CRICKET Review - CiX | Back to the bilaterals
Hello, fellow Cricket Enthusiasts,
You already know that I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of what's happening within the Cricket community. And it's the 109th edition now.
As I discussed in the last weeks, we conclude the Asia Cup 2025, India became the champions defeating Pakistan in the finals. And now we are back to the usuals. So, let's see what's going on!
Australia tour of New Zealand, 2025
The two neighbours met at 3-match T20I series, which ended with Australia winning it 2-0.
The first match was held at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. New Zealand started the batting, and it became a scary one for them. They lost three wickets inside the first two overs for just 6 runs. But Tim Robinson, a 23-year-old boy, stepped up and came to the rescue. He scored an unbeaten 106 off 66 balls, with 6 fours and 5 massive sixes. He got a good helping hand from Daryl Mitchell, and the Kiwis ended up scoring 181/6.
But that wasn't enough for the powerful batting line-up of Aussies. Head and Marsh started the chase, and they were batting like crazy. Head was gone for a quick 31 in the 6th over, when the score was 67 runs. Marsh continued his firecrackers, with the support of Short and David. Marsh scored 85 runs, and the Aussies chased the target in just 16.3 overs with 6 wickets remaining.
- The second was abandoned due to rain, and the next was held at the same venue. The pitch was a bit tricky, and batting first, NZ couldn't find a way as expected. They ended up scoring 156/9. Anyhow, the chase wasn't easy either. Wickets started falling regularly, making Australia vulnerable. But one man stood at one end. The captain and the opener Marsh played like he is in a different pitch. He made an unbeaten 102 runs off 52 balls, securing the win. All the other 8 batters who came contributed just 49 runs. Think about his touch.
Australia won the match by three wickets and the series. Marsh became the man of the match in both matches and also the man of the series.
Afghanistan vs Bangladesh in UAE, 2025
Just after the Asia Cup, the two teams met for 3 ODIs and 3 T20s. The T20I series is already over, with a clean sweep for Bangladesh. Although Afghanistan experienced an exciting rise in the last few years, it has not been on their way recently.
The first match was held at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah. Afghanistan started the batting it wasn't easy for them. With small partnerships and collapses, they ended up scoring 151/9.
Bangladesh started things really well. Emon and Tanzid made it very easy and quickly made a 109-run partnership for the first wicket within 11 overs. Both scored fifties, and everyone thought of having a quick wrap-up. But from they they just lost 6 wickets for 9 runs from 109/0 to 118/6. Rashid Khan took 4 wickets. Anyway, from the brink of defeat, Rishad Hossain and Nurul got the tigers to the win. They won the match by 6 wickets.
- The second match was also held at the same venue, and Afghanistan started the batting. They put 147/5 in their 20 overs with a lot of effort. Anhow, the start became troubled for Bangladesh as they lost three quick wickets at the powerplay. Jaker Ali and Shamim had a 50-run partnership to settle things. But still the chase was on, and wickets fell regularly. Once again, Nurul secured one end and won the match with two wickets and five balls remaining.
- The third match was almost the same. Afghans batted first and scored 143/9. It was below par score once again. Bangladesh chased this one pretty easily, with two overs and six wickets remaining. Saif Hassan scored a quick 64 runs with seven massive sixes. Nasum Ahmed became the player of the series, as Bangladesh had a clean sweep.
West Indies tour of India, 2025
The two teams are meeting for a two-test series. And the misery continues for the West Indies.
The first match was held at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. West Indies batted first, and it was just a joke, scoring 162/10. No real contribution from any in a batting-friendly pitch. Siraj took 4 wickets. Well, then, the reply was just savage from India. Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and even Jadesja scored centuries, while Gill scored a half-century. So, with that, India scored 448/5 when declared the inning.
WI started the second inning 286 runs behind, and could only add another 146 runs. India won the match by an innings and 140 runs
