Aarav had always believed that love was supposed to feel complete, like two puzzle pieces fitting perfectly together. But when he met Meera, he discovered that love could also be a beautiful kind of incompleteness something that filled him and broke him at the same time.

They met during a quiet autumn afternoon at a bookstore café. She was reading a poetry collection, and he was sipping black coffee, pretending to write. Their eyes met by chance, and in that silence, something stirred. They started talking — first about books, then about life, then about dreams. For months, Aarav felt like he had finally found someone who understood him.But love is not always a straight line.

Meera carried with her a past that Aarav could never quite touch. Sometimes, she would drift away in the middle of conversations, staring at something far away, as if she were living in two worlds at once. Aarav tried to hold her closer, but the closer he got, the more she seemed to slip through his fingers.

One evening, as the rain painted the city grey, they sat by the café window. Meera’s hands were warm in his, but her eyes were distant.“Aarav,” she said softly, “I have to leave.”
The words hit him harder than the thunder outside.
She smiled faintly, the way people do when they have already made peace with something painful. Somewhere I can find myself. Somewhere far from here.

He wanted to ask her to stay. He wanted to tell her that love could fix whatever was broken inside her, that he could wait forever if she asked him to. But he saw the quiet resolve in her eyes and realized that sometimes loving someone meant letting them go, even when every part of you screamed to hold on.

She left the next morning, leaving behind the poetry book they first talked about. Aarav read it over and over in the weeks that followed, memorizing the words as if they were pieces of her he could still keep.

Years passed. He never stopped wondering if she ever found what she was searching for, if she ever thought of him on lonely nights the way he thought of her. He met other people, loved again, but never with the same raw, unfinished intensity.

Aarav learned that love does not always give us happy endings. Sometimes it leaves us with unanswered questions, with moments we keep replaying, with a gentle ache that becomes part of who we are.And though his love story with Meera remained unfinished, he realized that maybe that was its purpose, to teach him that incompleteness could still be beautiful.
