Vesak
I wrote this on the Vesak Poya day, but I couldn’t share it until now. Still, the memories are fresh in my mind.
This year, Vesak was during a long weekend, so we had enough time to prepare well. We started making Vesak lanterns on Saturday and finished them on the same day. It was fun to work together and decorate the house.
The next day, we planned to visit my sister in Kalutara. But our car needed a repair, so we started the journey around 1 p.m. We reached her house around 2.30 p.m. It was really nice to spend time with my sister after a long time.
On Vesak day, we planned to visit some dansals. We left home at 4 p.m. and went to Kalutara town, Waskaduwa, and Wadduwa. There were many dansals in those areas. Even though the roads were busy and crowded, we managed to visit several of them.
It was a fun and enjoyable experience. We received many things from the dansals like ice cream, chickpeas, bread with sambol, sago, cool drinks, and biscuits with tea. This year, more people had come to the dansals than in previous years. Everyone looked happy and cheerful.
After visiting the dansals, we wanted to go to the Kalutara Bodhiya. But because of the large crowd and heavy traffic, we couldn’t go there. The road was full of vehicles and people visiting the Vesak zone.
Finally, we returned home around 9 p.m., feeling tired but happy. It was a meaningful and joyful Vesak day, full of kindness, sharing, and togetherness.
