"The Assassin" is the newest addition to the Amazon Prime Library. It's a #crime #thriller #series that was released on 25th July. I didn't even see a trailer of this series and started watching it, having no idea. Keeley Hawes, Freddie Highmore, Shalom Brune-Franklin, and Devon Terrell play the main roles here. There are only 6 episodes in the 1st season, and you could finish it within 5 hours.
The story goes around Julie and Edward. Julie is Edward's mother, but they are not close. They are visiting once every 4-5 years. Edward is 30 now, but Julie doesn't know anything about Edward, and it is the same for Edward. He doesn't even know what Julie does for a living. Julie hasn't even said who his father is. That's how deep their relationship is.
On the other hand, Julie has a big reason for holding in her end. She was an assassin. She's retired now and lives a peaceful life on a small island in Greece. It's been 4 years since Edward's last visit, and he's visiting his mom again.
In the interim, Julie's handler, Damian, brought an offer to the table, a one last job for old time's sake. It is to kill this girl, Kayla, who is spending a vacation on her yacht. But the way Damian spoke made Julie suspicious, so she tricked this guy on the phone to find out whether he was actually Damian or not. Seems like he's not, and Julie aborted the mission at the last minute, having doubts that Damian is no longer alive.
Even though Edward came to see his mother, he needs to know some things. He needs to know who his dad is. And the other thing is, on his 30th birthday, he was made a trustee of Anvil Assets, receiving a substantial trust fund from it. Julie refused to say anything about either. It made Edward so upset.
In the midst, there's a wedding on the island and everyone is invited. So both Julie and Edward attended it. Right after exchanging vows, multiple sniper gunshots from an unknown location were fired, and at that moment, Julie knew that they were after her. She hid Edward in a Secure location and rode a car towards the hill, where the sniper is, and killed him. And that's when she revealed Edward her true side.
Julie and Edward rushed to her cabin and packed some guns, thinking of getting off this island. In the interim, a few assassins reached the island to get to know the location of Julie. After finding what was needed, they killed all on the spot and fled to Julie's cabin.
Julie was expecting company, so she rode a bike with Edward to get away from them, finally ending up at the port. Luka, the butcher of the island, also joined them there. A yacht was there in the bay, and all swam to it. And that's when the fun starts.
The yacht belongs to Kayla, the target set by Julie's fake handler, and also happens to be Edward's girlfriend. Kayla is with her brother Ezra. Their father is the owner of Cross Global Mining (CGM)—a powerful mining conglomerate with global operations. So how will all this play out? It's up to you to find out.
