Entertainment Blog #360 | My Oxford Year [2025] : Lessons from Oxford...
We like to schedule our lives ahead ourselves. And sometimes, it adds pressure on us when it's not working out as we planned. Planning is better, but we also should understand that life is unpredictable, and we have to navigate through this mess to remain alive and become successful at the same time.
My Oxford Year is a 2025 Netflix Original #romantic #comedy #movie that was released on 1st August. The movie stars Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest as main characters. The movie didn't receive a warm welcome from critics, but you know, it doesn't matter that much when it comes to viewership on online platforms.
The story revolves around Anna, an American girl with Spanish DNA from home. She had learned in the traditional way and completed a degree on a high note. Even now, she could have a job at Goldman Sachs, but her passion for poetry is kind of holding her back. So she's going to Oxford to study poetry for a year.
This has always been Anna's plan. Complete the degree and study in Oxford for a year, return to the USA, and continue the life with the job at Goldman Sachs. She applied to study Victorian poetry because of Professor Styan. But the thing is, she had been promoted as Head of Graduate Studies, so she can't continue with studies. So one of her DPhil students, Jamie Davenport, is taking over the class.
But the the thing is, something happened between Jamie and Anna before she came to the opening day of the master's program. When Anna was on the way to a café to have some breakfast, Jamie's car ran into a puddle on the road, and that made Anna all wet. Jamie drove without stopping but eventually came to the same cafe Anna came to.
With that initial impression, Anna started studying under Jamie. Being the only American kinda highlighted her, but more than that, it was her skills that made her shine more. With the initial spark, can Anna and Jamie continue their professional relationship, or will it convert into another level? It's up to you to find out..
But you already can imagine how it will turn out. And yeah... It will be like that, but there's an undercurrent going on, and that's what makes the movie interesting, even though this type of narrative was tested years before.
