A few days ago, I stopped by a sweet shop near Shapla Chattar in Rangpur. The shop is called “King Sweets”, and right after the name, you’ll notice the words Misti & Doi. That makes it clear this place is all about traditional Bengali sweets and creamy yogurt, which is their specialties. The shop has a welcoming vibe. The layout of the shop looked quite new, perhaps because of the neatly organized shelves filled with sweets and the beautiful signboard above the entrance. Altogether, it gave me the impression that the shop was still fresh and newly set up.

For me, places like this not only serve delicious treats but also carry the charm of Bengali tradition in every bite. However, it’s always worth checking if the sweets are properly covered in the shelves and free from flies. The younger brother with whom I visited Rangpur stopped at this shop to enjoy some sweets.

The King Sweets shop may be small, but it offers a wide variety of sweets, desserts, and yoghurt. The shelves were beautifully decorated with colorful treats, making the display quite inviting. With so many options arranged together, it can be a little difficult to decide which sweet to try first. That’s why it’s best to taste two or three different varieties to truly discover which one is the most delicious.

It's probably sandesh, one kind of dessert. There was no name or price tag on this

Red sweets, Kalojam, Hashi Khushi, Hilsa Peti, and Sandesh are also available in the sweet shops of our town. However, in this shop I found a few unique sweets that caught my attention. I first tried the sweet displayed next to Roshkodom in the second picture, though it had no name tag.

After that, we tasted Kalojam, which is a traditional sweet I have enjoyed many times in my life. Both of the sweets we tried were not extraordinary, but they were still good. We didn’t taste any other sweets from the shop. One of them had a green color in it, and its appearance was quite unique, it almost looked like sliced eggplants.

Some of the sweets were missing name and price tags; otherwise, it would have been easier for me to know the names and prices of those unique varieties. Although I didn’t try every sweet, their delicious appearance and the beautiful decoration were quite impressive. I believe this sweet shop could become more popular if it offered a wider variety of items and had a bit more space.

It wasn’t a bad sweet shop, and I really liked the decoration and arrangement of the sweets. Although they include “Doi” (yoghurt) in the shop’s name, the quality of the yoghurt didn’t look very impressive to me. My younger brother wanted to buy some, but I suggested he skip it since we weren’t sure about the taste. Besides, the yoghurt at Shah Restaurant in our town is much better. However, you can definitely try the sweets here, as their quality is good and worth tasting.
